The Price is Blog, Right?

About

Come on down!  You’re the next reader of the Price is Blog, Right? !!  The only multi-platform media source for all things Price is Right (Mon-Fri, 11am EST!).

Unfortunately, “The Price is Right Blog” was already taken.  More on that later.  But we wanted TPIR1this blog to pop up in a search for “the price is right blog,” so we used the same words, and simply by switching the last two, I think we’ve brought a whole new meaning to the phrase.  (One that doesn’t really make sense.  Like the scripts for TPIR showcases.)

And by “we,” I mean me.  I doubt anyone else out there would devote 5 hours a week to watching The Price is Right, let alone analyzing and critiquing it.  But I am ready, willing, and able, like sanitation workers.  Yeah, that’s right, you’d better be prepared for totally unrelated links.  That’s how this blog rolls.

There’s simply too much going on in the world of TPIR to ignore.  Drew Carey is settling into his starring role, new games are popping up as others die out, getting $1.00 on your bonus spin now earns you an extra $25,000, Ed Begley Jr. was on the show last week (can’t believe the blog wasn’t already running for that!), and even Bob Barker was back to present a showcase built around the release of his new book (complete with a NEW TRUCK to haul a truckload of books home from the bookstore!…??).  For those who’ve been watching and have needed someone to talk to about all this but who don’t know anyone else who watches, I’m here, and I’m listening.  Like Frasier Crane.  (BTW, Frasier blog is in the works.)

05 price is rightAnd anyway, I’m talking.  You’re listening.  But feel free to join in the conversation, on the blog and on Twitter (PriceisBlog).  I’ll be live-tweeting every episode between 11am and noon whenever possible, but if you tape TPIR, don’t enjoy my twats until you start watching!

I can’t even imagine the vast topics we’ll be able to explore on the journey that lies ahead… I’d like to call it a “golden road.”  Looking forward to it-

Rob

Hello! It’s always good to see another fan of TPIR on the internets. I’m kinda hopeful for this place since it seems not drip with sorrow and anger like that other Price website (which shall go unnamed). I had a couple of questions: How long have you been watching Price? What do you think of Drew’s performance? What did you think of their firing of Roger and the “new direction” we saw last year? Thanks!

Oh, you’d be surprised how many of us out here watch AND analyze TPIR! ;-)

Added you to my blog roll: http://gameshows.about.com/b/ — looking forward to reading more!

In response to your comment about how often the “money” is in each box in ½ Off… this isn’t hard to do, considering it’s one of the newer pricing games on the show (premiered May 28, 2004). Fans of The Price is Right have made notes of all 109 times ½ Off have been played, and here’s the frequency:

    Box 1: 4 times
    Box 2: 7 times
    Box 3: 3 times
    Box 4: 16 times
    Box 5: 2 times
    Box 6: 10 times
    Box 7: 4 times
    Box 8: 11 times
    Box 9: 5 times
    Box 10: 4 times
    Box 11: 4 times
    Box 12: 7 times
    Box 13: 0 times
    Box 14: 12 times
    Box 15: 8 times
    Box 16: 12 times

One thing you will notice here is that all five boxes that have held the money 10+ times so far are even-numbered; in fact, those five boxes combined have held the money 61 out of 109 times. Of odd-numbered boxes, only box 15 has held the money more than five times, and box 13 has never held it; with boxes 2 and 12 holding it seven times apiece, box 10 is the only even-numbered box to be ignored, only holding the money four times. Even-numbered boxes have held the money 79 times; odd-numbered boxes, only 30.
