The Price is Right Blog

April 28, 2009 · 1 Comment

Remember how I said “The Price is Right Blog” was already taken, and there’d be more on that later?  Well later is now.  If a feud is going to happen, better to start the battle early and take them by surprise.

If you haven’t visited their website, you might want to check it out: http://thepriceisright.balloflightning.com/  (Ball of lightning?  What the hell is that?)

You might ask why I would offer free advertising for my competitor.  It’s a valid question, but I don’t accept the premise.  How can it be free advertising if the product is so hideous?  You see, I am confident that if you click the above link and visit The Price is Right Blog, you will never want to go back.  (And by the way, “The Price is Right Blog?”  What a stupid name!  It doesn’t even make sense!)

For those who haven’t clicked the link and have agreed to take my word for its worthlessness, let me briefly explain why it sucks so much.  Every day, they post a description of what happened on that morning’s show: which games were played, who won and who lost, the actual retail prices of the prizes, the results at the big wheel, and a description of the showcases.

BORING!

If I wanted to know what happened on each episode, I’d WATCH each episode!  Oh wait, I do!  The Price is Right Blog offers nothing besides a minute by minute record of the events on each show: no opinions, no commentary, no analysis that goes deeper into the world of TPIR.  I guess The Price is Right Blog is good for people who don’t have time to watch TPIR, but want to know, with absolutely no build-up (and not even any music), whether or not some guy named Bryce won a $999 pendant.  But what kind of pendant?  Was it shiny?  Was the model holding it, or wearing it?  Did Drew make a joke about a guy winning a women’s pendant?  Is Bryce even a man?  For the answers to these questions, don’t turn to The Price is Right Blog.  IT DOESN’T ANSWER ANY OF THEM!

The Price is Right Blog may be full of facts, but TPIR isn’t about facts.  It’s about people, emotions, craziness, crazy emotional people, and Drew Carey’s half-formed quips about the ridiculousness of what he’s doing.  Actual retail prices change over time, but the essence of TPIR will always remain the same.  And that’s what this blog is all about.

Let me put it this way.  It’s like The Price is Right Blog and The Price is Blog, Right? are both at the big wheel.  The Price is Right Blog is up first, and it spins 60 cents.  That’s a decent spin, but it might not be enough to win.  Too bad The Price is Right Blog doesn’t have the balls to spin again.  Then The Price is Blog, Right? comes up.  It’s got 2 chances to score higher than 60 cents without going over $1.  The odds are in its favor (more on odds later), and though 6o cents has won it in the past, The Price is Blog, Right? has been studying and practicing for this moment its whole life.  60 cents isn’t too hard to beat.

I apologize for starting the blog with this type of post.  But if a war is to be waged, let it begin today.  I’m coming for you, Price is Right Blog.  I’m coming for you hard.

COME ON DOWN!

April 27, 2009 · 1 Comment

You’re the next reader of the Price is Blog, Right? !!  The only multi-platform media source for all things Price is Right (Mon-Fri, 11am EST!).

Unfortunately, “The Price is Right Blog” was already taken.  More on that later.  But we wanted this blog to pop up in a search for “the price is right blog,” so we used the same words, and simply by switching the last two, I think we’ve brought a whole new meaning to the phrase.  (One that doesn’t really make sense.  Like the scripts for TPIR showcases.)

And by “we,” I mean me.  I doubt anyone else out there would devote 5 hours a week to watching The Price is Right, let alone analyzing and critiquing it.  But I am ready, willing, and able, like sanitation workers.  Yeah, that’s right, you’d better be prepared for totally unrelated links.  That’s how this blog rolls.

There’s simply too much going on in the world of TPIR to ignore.  Drew Carey is settling into his starring role, new games are popping up as others die out, getting $1.00 on your bonus spin now earns you an extra $25,000, Ed Begley Jr. was on the show last week (can’t believe the blog wasn’t already running for that!), and even Bob Barker was back to present a showcase built around the release of his new book (complete with a NEW TRUCK to haul a truckload of books home from the bookstore!…??).  For those who’ve been watching and have needed someone to talk to about all this but who don’t know anyone else who watches, I’m here, and I’m listening.  Like Frasier Crane.  (BTW, Frasier blog is in the works.)

And anyway, I’m talking.  You’re listening.  But feel free to join in the conversation, on the blog and on Twitter (PriceisBlog).  I’ll be live-tweeting every episode between 11am and noon whenever possible, but if you tape TPIR, don’t enjoy my twats until you start watching!

I can’t even imagine the vast topics we’ll be able to explore on the journey that lies ahead… I’d like to call it a “golden road.”  Looking forward to it-

Rob
